Simon Menin erhielt seine musikalische Ausbildung zunächst als Cornettist in der Jugendmusik Olten. Seine künstlerische Laufbahn führte ihn zu international renommierten Brass Bands wie der Brass Band Berner Oberland, der Point of Ayr Colliery Band, Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke sowie der Williams Fairey Band. Am Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester studierte er Trompete und Musikpädagogik. Dort schloss er mit Auszeichnung („credit in performance“) sowie dem Solistendiplom PPRNCM ab.

Seine Studien ergänzte er durch Orchesterakademien beim Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo (Japan) und beim National Orchestral Institute in Maryland (USA). Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen begleiteten seinen Werdegang, darunter der Förderpreis der Rentsch-Stiftung für Kulturelle Impulse (Schweiz) sowie der Konzertpreis der RNCM Concerto Competition in Manchester.

Über 16 Jahre prägte Simon Menin als Solotrompeter des Irish Chamber Orchestra in Limerick (Irland) den Klang des Ensembles entscheidend mit. Parallel arbeitete er mit namhaften Orchestern und Künstlern zusammen, unter anderem im Rahmen des Projekts Spira Mirabilis in Italien, das sein musikalisches Denken nachhaltig beeinflusste. Weitere Stationen führten ihn nach Chicago, wo er vier Jahre lang stellvertretender Solotrompeter des Illinois Symphony Orchestra war, sowie zur Gründung der International Chamber Artists of Chicago. Er wirkte an Produktionen und Tourneen von Sinéad O’Connor, Andrea Bocelli und Foreigner mit und spielte in Musicals wie Annie, Camelot, South Pacific, Blood Brothers sowie Beauty and the Beast in Städten wie London, Liverpool, Chicago, Dublin und Zürich.

Die Beschäftigung mit historischer Aufführungspraxis und der Naturtrompete bildet einen weiteren Schwerpunkt seiner Arbeit. Als Solist trat Simon Menin u. a. mit dem Irish Chamber Orchestra, dem Argovia Philharmonic und dem Orchestra of St. Cecilia auf. Solorezitale führten ihn zu Festivals wie dem Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano (Italien) und dem Walled City Music Festival in Londonderry (Nordirland).

Auch als Pädagoge ist er international gefragt. So wirkte er beim Aufbau des Instrumentalunterrichts an der British School Al Khubairat in Abu Dhabi mit, leitete Workshops zu Themen wie Lampenfieber an der University of Ulster (Nordirland) und am Konservatorium Košice (Slowakei) und unterrichtete als Gastdozent für Solo-Performance & Stage Presence an der Penn State University (USA).

Seit 2023 lebt Simon Menin in Basel (Schweiz), wo er als freischaffender Musiker in verschiedenen Orchestern und Theatern tätig ist.

Simon Menin began his musical journey as a cornet player with the Olten Youth Wind Band in Switzerland. His career soon brought him to the international brass band scene, performing with leading ensembles such as Brass Band Berner Oberland, the Point of Ayr Colliery Band, Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke, and the Williams Fairey Band. He went on to study trumpet and music education at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, graduating with distinction (“Credit in Performance”) and earning the prestigious PPRNCM soloist diploma.

His education was enriched by orchestral academy experiences at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo (Japan) and the National Orchestral Institute in Maryland (USA). He is a recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, including the Rentsch Foundation Prize for Cultural Impulse (Switzerland) and the Concerto Award of the RNCM Concerto Competition in Manchester.

Simon first spent four years in Chicago (USA), serving as associate principal trumpet of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and co-founding the International Chamber Artists of Chicago. He then moved to Ireland, where he served for over 16 years as principal trumpet of the Irish Chamber Orchestra in Limerick, playing a central role in shaping the ensemble’s brass sound. His involvement with Spira Mirabilis in Italy proved especially influential and continues to inspire his artistic outlook.

Throughout his career, Simon has collaborated on projects with distinguished conductors and composers, including Bernard Haitink, Sir Simon Rattle, Jörg Widmann, and Lorenzo Coppola.

His versatility extends well beyond the classical repertoire. He has toured and recorded with artists such as Sinéad O’Connor, Andrea Bocelli, and Foreigner, and has appeared in musical theatre productions including Annie, Camelot, South Pacific, Blood Brothers, and Beauty and the Beast, with performances in London, Liverpool, Chicago, Dublin, and Zurich. Inspired by his work with Spira Mirabilis, he has also developed a deep commitment to historical performance practice and the natural trumpet.

As a soloist, Simon Menin has performed with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, the Argovia Philharmonic, and the Orchestra of St. Cecilia (Ireland), and has given recitals at festivals such as the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano (Italy) and the Walled City Music Festival in Derry (Northern Ireland).

Alongside his performing career, he is dedicated to education and outreach.
