Simon Menin erhielt seine musikalische Ausbildung zunächst als Cornettist in der Jugendmusik Olten. Seine frühe künstlerische Laufbahn führte ihn zu international renommierten Brass Bands, darunter die Brass Band Berner Oberland, die Point of Ayr Colliery Band, Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke und die Williams Fairey Band.

Am Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester studierte er Trompete und Musikpädagogik. Er schloss sein Studium mit Auszeichnung („Credit in Performance“) sowie dem Solistendiplom PPRNCM ab. Ergänzend nahm er an Orchesterakademien des Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo (Japan) und des National Orchestral Institute in Maryland (USA) teil. Über 16 Jahre war Simon Menin Solotrompeter des Irish Chamber Orchestra in Limerick und prägte den Klang des Ensembles massgeblich mit. Parallel arbeitete er mit zahlreichen renommierten Orchestern und Musikerpersönlichkeiten zusammen. Eine besondere Bedeutung für seine künstlerische Entwicklung hatte seine Mitwirkung am Projekt Spira Mirabilis in Italien, das sein musikalisches Denken nachhaltig beeinflusste.

Weitere wichtige Stationen seiner internationalen Laufbahn führten ihn nach Chicago, wo er vier Jahre als stellvertretender Solotrompeter des Illinois Symphony Orchestra tätig war und die International Chamber Artists of Chicago mitbegründete. Er wirkte an Produktionen und Tourneen von Sinéad O’Connor, Andrea Bocelli und Foreigner mit und spielte in Musicalproduktionen wie Annie, Camelot, South Pacific, Blood Brothers und Beauty and the Beast. Seine internationalen Engagements führten ihn unter anderem nach London, Liverpool, Dublin, Zürich, Chicago, New York, Tokyo, Berlin, São Paulo und Buenos Aires.

Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt seiner Arbeit liegt in der historischen Aufführungspraxis und insbesondere im Spiel der Naturtrompete. Als Solist trat Simon Menin unter anderem mit dem Irish Chamber Orchestra, dem Argovia Philharmonic und dem Orchestra of St. Cecilia (Irland) auf. Solorezitals führten ihn zu internationalen Festivals wie dem Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano in Italien und dem Walled City Music Festival in Londonderry, Nordirland.

Auch als Pädagoge verfügt Simon Menin über langjährige internationale Erfahrung. Er war am Aufbau des Instrumentalunterrichts an der British School Al Khubairat in Abu Dhabi beteiligt, leitete Workshops zu Themen wie Lampenfieber an der University of Ulster in Nordirland und am Konservatorium Košice in der Slowakei und unterrichtete als Gastdozent für Solo Performance & Stage Presence an der Penn State University in den USA.

Simon Menin began his musical training as a cornettist with the Youth Band of Olten in Switzerland. His early artistic career took him to internationally renowned brass bands, including Brass Band Berner Oberland, Point of Ayr Colliery Band, Brighouse & Rastrick, Black Dyke and the Williams Fairey Band.

He studied trumpet and music education at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in Manchester, graduating with distinction (“Credit in Performance”) and the PPRNCM Soloist Diploma. He furthered his studies through orchestral academies at the Pacific Music Festival in Sapporo, Japan, and the National Orchestral Institute in Maryland, USA. His awards include the Rentsch Foundation Prize for Cultural Impulses in Switzerland and the Concerto Award at the RNCM Concerto Competition in Manchester.

For more than 16 years, Simon Menin served as Principal Trumpet of the Irish Chamber Orchestra in Limerick, playing a significant role in shaping the ensemble’s sound. Alongside his orchestral career, he has worked with numerous distinguished orchestras and musicians. His participation in the Spira Mirabilis project in Italy was particularly influential, having a lasting impact on his musical thinking and approach to performance.

Another important chapter in his international career took him to Chicago, where he spent four years as Associate Principal Trumpet of the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and co-founded the International Chamber Artists of Chicago. Historical performance practice, and particularly the use of the natural trumpet, form another important strand of his work. As a soloist, Simon Menin has performed with ensembles including the Irish Chamber Orchestra, Argovia Philharmonic and the Orchestra of St Cecilia (Ireland). His solo recitals have taken him to international festivals such as the Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte di Montepulciano in Italy and the Walled City Music Festival in Derry, Northern Ireland.

Simon Menin is also an experienced international educator.
